IN THE RHYTHM OF THE CAJON
UNIVERSAL PERCUSSION
What is Cajon?
The cajón is a Peruvian percussion instrument that looks like a simple wooden box, but holds a wealth of rhythmic potential. It is made of a wooden box with a thin front plate (tapa) that resonates when struck. Inside the cajon, there are often springs or strings that add the characteristic “snare” effect, resembling the sound of a drum, and hitting the middle of the tapa produces a deep and full bass.
This combination makes it a versatile instrument used in a variety of styles from flamenco and jazz to acoustic and ethnic music. Compact and easy to play and with a powerful rhythmic charge, the cajon is perfect for professional musicians and amateurs alike and can replace an entire drum kit.

USAGE
What Can Cajon Be Used For?
Device of the cahona
Kick and Snap
Castanets
The castanets add a distinctive, bright snapping sound that brings an extra dynamic to the rhythm.
High "snap/slap"
The higher sharper sound comes from the beats at the top of the tapa (front panel) where the strings and springs are located inside the instrument.
Low bass / "kick"
The bass comes from the beats from the beats in the middle of the front plane (the tapa) where the resonance is strongest.
Rubber feet
Durable rubber feet lift the cahon off the floor or stage, protecting its housing.
Ergonomic seating pad
The cajons come with an additional cushioning pad for greater seating comfort and stability for extended playing.![]()
Bevels
The upper edges are slightly bevelled on both sides to ensure greater comfort and ergonomics when playing. The smooth curves give freedom to the hands and wrists and help to improve control over the sound.
The bass comes from the blows to the center of the front surface (the tapa), where the resonance is strongest.
The cajon produces several types of percussion sounds, which are mainly divided between a deeper “bass/kick” and a higher “snap.”
Zendo Sounds cajons include additional castanets for even greater variety and dynamics of performance, as well as several ergonomic features for increased comfort when playing.
